Insulation of Filter System at Yara Glomfjord
Client: ITEK AS
End Customer: Yara Glomfjord
Executed by: Teknisk Isolering AS
In collaboration with ITEK AS, we delivered a custom insulation solution for a complex filter system at Yara in Glomfjord. The project had strict technical requirements and demanded a high degree of flexibility and precision throughout the execution.
The Starting Point: Technical and Operational Challenge
Yara required an insulation solution that would:
-
Ensure stable operating temperature
-
Provide safe and easy access to manholes and inspection hatches
-
Reduce the risk of Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)
The Solution: Modular Insulation with Sandwich Panels
We chose a solution using sandwich panels that fully enclose the insulation material in metal cladding.
Key Benefits:
-
The panels have no direct contact with the filter, reducing the risk of CUI
-
They are removable and slidable, allowing easy access to service points
-
Fast and clean installation saves time and minimizes downtime

On-Site Adaptations
-
Areas with limited clearance—such as around the hopper—were insulated using traditional aluminum-clad insulation
-
We installed guide rails with an air gap to prevent dust from blocking panel movement
-
Top sections were connected using angled brackets for added stability
What This Meant for Yara
This solution has provided Yara with several clear benefits:
-
Safer and faster maintenance: Maintenance personnel now have clear access to manholes and inspection points
-
Reduced risk of downtime: The sandwich construction prevents moisture and corrosion—common causes of unexpected failures
-
Improved energy efficiency: The insulation helps maintain stable process heat—crucial for energy-efficient operations
"This solution has significantly reduced our maintenance time, while giving us a system that’s much easier to work with. It’s a boost for both operations and HSE."
— Yara Glomfjord
This project demonstrates how technical insulation can be smartly and modularly implemented—even in demanding process environments.
We thank ITEK AS and Yara for the great collaboration and look forward to new challenges ahead.
